To what extent are the Smithsonian branches and the other Washington, D.C. museums using Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, and Pinterest? How much do they embrace newer social media channels? Are the videos they produce popular with the public? This 34-page report assesses 2012 video and social media utilization, reach, and output for 42 metro-area museums, gardens, libraries, and zoos (see view 2).
We gathered statistics on the number of video views, photos, and tweets associated with each of the 42 museums during a 48-hour period in March 2013 and ranked each museum based on public engagement. This PDF download provides over 24 lists of stats for each social-media channel, and identifies the most popular museum-produced videos by subject during 2012 -- science, exhibitions, lectures, and event videos (see view 3).
